Delegating Authority

Whereas medical doctors once had total authority, some of that authority is now delegated to physician's assistants and nurse practitioners.

While the growth in the number of people filling these job descriptions has made it possible for some doctors to concentrate their efforts on more specialized activities, it also means that P.A.s and N.P.s can be paid less money to do work traditionally performed by a doctor.
