Newer Hardware

Transcriptionists who take their work seriously must optimize their computers by making them as fast and powerful as possible:

  • A newer generation of computer chip, running at the fastest speed possible, will be able to handle more commands within a given time frame.

  • Adding several megabytes of RAM (random access memory) to one's computer can also speed up performance, especially when one is working with Microsoft Windows.

  • With upgrades to various programs requiring so much more storage space, installing a large enough hard drive to archive previously-transcribed work takes on greater importance.

  • Investing in a high-speed Internet connection essential for electronic transfer
    of files.
