Consciousness Raising Exercise #2

Frequently, when doctors have problems with a hospital's digital dictation system, they vent their anger on the wrong person. For example:

"This is Dr. D dictating. I have tried to dictate this report several times but the goddamn dictation system keeps cutting me off. I'm getting sick and tired of this inconvenience which wastes my valuable professional time and forces me to redictate reports. If you can't do something about this right now, I'm going to take this matter up with administration and see if we can't find someone who can do the work the way it's supposed to be done, goddamn it!"

In 100 words or less, explain what Dr. D is doing wrong and describe the proper way for him to handle this situation.

Dr. F has taken a similar approach. He recently began a report with this statement:

"This is Dr. F dictating. I have been informed by the people in Medical Records that I must redictate this report because of the sloppy and extremely unprofessional work habits of you transcriptionists -- who only seem to be able to lose my dictated reports rather than deliver them to the chart on time."

In 100 words or less, explain what Dr. F is doing wrong and describe the proper way for him to handle this situation.
