According to Greek mythology,Pandora was the first woman on earth. She was, in effect, "bestowed upon humankind" as a punishment for Prometheus's theft of fire from the gods. Pandora was entrusted with a beautiful box that contained all the ills that could plague people and was warned that once she opened it, she would never be able to put its contents back in the box. When her curiosity got the best of her, Pandora opened the box, thus releasing all the evils of human life.
