Proofreading For Quality Assurance

One of the biggest sources of friction involving transcription is the issue of quality assurance. With a digital dictation system, another transcriptionist can access a piece of dictation by its job number and listen to it from a remote location. If the job has already been transcribed, a proofreader can dial in, access the job, and listen to the doctor's dictation while reading the transcribed report.
  • Periodic checks, with another transcriptionist listening to the dictating physician, can point out tiny little errors in interpretation.

  • If a transcriptionist is having trouble understanding a doctor who mumbles or speaks English as a second language, another set of ears is often required to figure out what the doctor is trying to say.
