Ethnic pride goes hand in hand with clannishness. For many minorities, the desire to keep the money flowing "within the community" is matched by a distrust of people from other backgrounds.

For these reasons, a Hispanic physician is likely to attract a Latino-identified patient base the same way that a black physician might attract a largelyAfrican-American patient base. This video clip of Tom Bosley performing a scene from Bock & Harnick's Fiorello! is a good demonstration of how physicians, like politicians, must be more sensitive to various racial/ethnic populations.
