Head of the Medical Record Department

The head of the Medical Record Department enforces the policies of the Medical Record Committee. As the administrator of a critical hospital department, this person oversees the processing, storage, and retrieval of medical records for:

  • Patients who are entering the hospital

  • Patients whose records must be copied for legal purposes

  • Patients whose records must be faxed to another healthcare facility.
Because the head of the Medical Record Department is charged with making sure that hospital records are dictated in a timely fashion, this person is frequently forced to ride shotgun on doctors who are delinquent in completing their reports.
